Quick definitions for the terms you’ll see throughout these docs and in your dashboard.
Brand — Your business in AdvocateLoop. Each brand has its own referral program, settings, branding, advocates, and data.
Brand ID — The unique identifier (UUID) for your brand. Used by every integration to attribute requests to your program. See Find your API Key & Brand ID.
API Key — The secret value that authenticates your requests to AdvocateLoop. See Find your API Key & Brand ID.
Advocate (referrer) — A customer who shares your brand with others. Each advocate has a referral code and a shareable link.
Referral code — A short alphanumeric code tied to an advocate, for example V2AVMRDJ.
Referral link — Your site URL with an advocate’s referral code attached, which the advocate shares with friends.
Share — When an advocate sends their referral link out (via link, email, or social).
Click — A visit to your site through a referral link.
Claim — A record that a referred visitor has started redeeming a referral, such as entering their email or beginning checkout.
Conversion — A completed purchase from a referred visitor. The order amount, any discount applied, and the advocate’s reward are recorded here.
Refund — A returned or reversed order. Refunding in your store keeps your AdvocateLoop numbers aligned with what was actually paid.
Reward — What an advocate earns for a successful referral, as configured in your dashboard.
Discount — The offer a referred friend receives (for example, a percentage or fixed amount off), configured in your dashboard.
Widget — An embeddable component that lets visitors claim a referral discount or sign up as an advocate on your site.
Attribution window — A dashboard setting that controls how long a referral stays valid after a visit.
Dashboard — Your AdvocateLoop control panel at app.advocateloop.com, where you view performance and configure your program.
